“Why is NASCAR appealing and to whom does it appeal?”
To start with, I can say that in terms of aerodynamics, stock-car races are interesting because watching many cars formingmulti-car draft lines to gain extra speed is exciting. Also watching how they try to win the race by looking for rivals that can help them go faster, no matter if they are with thesame team or not. It is mostly a man to man competition; the important thing is to go as fast possible to win the race.
In addition there is other interesting point that the writermentions in this text and it is that these races are announced by former drivers that know very well what they are talking about, they know how to criticize the race.
On the otherhand, the majority of the new NASCAR’s followers live in the cities they are well-educated middle-class professionals and most of them used to go to the races with their families.Children and wives have also become in fans and on my point of view it is a reason why NASCAR has an excellent TV coverage, and as a result is more appealing for American people. Also, all the adrenaline that viewers feel when they are watching these Stock-cars at 120- 150 MPH is another factor that makes this competition more appealing.
The writer alsomentions that these races show how to complete something (in this case the race) by doing a good job helping each other; nevertheless, each driver also has his own interest: to win therace.
As a conclusion I think that NASCAR has become attractive for American people because it is a motor sport where “out competing can depend on out cooperating” as the writersays, so this motor sport is not only a race where the drivers have to communicate with each other to make the cutting- edge, but it is also a sport where there is cooperation.
