The hair and makeup atthe BCBG Max Azria show today were pretty basic. Well, it looked basic — fresh-faced, barely there. But for someone who has been trying to achieve the minimal makeup look all summer, I will be the first tosay it’s harder than it looks.
Charlotte Willer, the global makeup artist for Maybelline, insisted that it was easy to do. She had only four products in her arsenal. She started with the brand’s Fit Mefoundation, powder and a brush. She and the other artists applied a small amount on models’ faces at first. They made sure they looked even-toned and blemish-free.
Then they added more product for complete coverage. And more, and more. The trick to doing this look at home is knowing when to stop adding foundation and powder. It’s the turning point wherenatural could turn into mannequin.
To complete the look they used Baby Lips lip balm on the models’ lips and eyelids. No mascara, no eyeliner.
The hair was slicked back and echoed the wet hairlooks from past seasons, including the spring 2011 shows from Joseph Altuzarra, Erin Fetherson andRichard Chai Love. I lost count of how many tubes of gel the hairstylists went through for each model’shead.
