Augusto Sandino was a Nicaraguan that was here in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution, he watched all that was happening in here, and he wanted to do the same in his country, so when he went back to Nicaragua he wanted to do something about USA invading them.
United States invaded Nicaragua because they wanted to protect the factories that belonged to them. The people in Nicaraguaorganized a social movement, which pretended a change in the social order, they wanted to remove the Americans, because big part of the economy was in charge of them, they wanted to stop being exploded and to increase the economy of the country. The leader of this resistance of the 20’s was Augusto Sandino. A lot of people supported this movement so the fighting against the USA army started. Thisfight lasted seven years, since the Americans did a deal that consisted on leaving the country, if they establish a government in which they guarantee the economic interests of the USA factories. Augusto Sandino watched this and he really wanted to do something about it, he thought this was not fair so he continued fighting against the government established by USA. He supported the ideals ofEmiliano Zapata “The land is for those who worked it” and what he wanted to do was to kick out the Americans. Anastasio Somoza was the chief of the Military so he watched this and he decided to kill Augusto Sandino.
In 1937Anastasio Somoza Garcia took the power, but the workers, the students, and a lot of people didn’t liked him, so what he did was to build up jails, kidnap, and torture the peoplewho were against him. Anastasio Somoza also did a lot of frauds to keep winning the elections, so, what started as a democracy, started becoming in a dictatorship.

Anastasio Somoza started to accumulate territory, a lot of territories and he became owner of some of the most important industries in the country, he had so many territories that when someone asked him about all of his possessions heanswered “That I know, I just have one possession, and it’s called Nicaragua”, he owned almost all the country. Rigoberto Lopez Pérez killed Anastasio Somoza in 1952; he shot him at his own party.
After Anastasio Somoza Garcia was killed, in 1956 his son Luis Somoza Debayle assumed the power, he was the oldest of Somoza’s sons, and he was the good one. He was such a good president or dictatorif you prefer to call him like that. Luis did a lot of good things for the country, like for example he tried so hard to modernize the country, by instituting many economic and social reforms. He tried to make better relationships between the other Latin American countries. When he left the government in 1963, he became a senator, and he kept this job until he died.
In 1961, was created the FSLNthat stands for “Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional” this was a political-military organization, this organization was based in Augusto Sandino’s ideals of defending the sovereignty of the country. This organization was created by Carlos Fonseca, Francisco Buitrago, Jorge Navarro, Silvio Mayorga, Pablo Ubelda, etc… The main objective of this organization was to remove the dictatorship, by theuse of guns, to gain the power, establish a democracy and help the country to progress.
In January 1967, there was a massacre, what happened is that the people were trying to go to “Loma de Tiscapa”, from the Roosevelt avenue in form of protest, but the police don’t let them pass, the people were shouting “Police join us, police join us”.
