The Coldest Place On Earth

The book is a short story that dates from the summerof 1910 to the fall of 1912. It is about a race to the South Pole between Norwegian and English men Roald Amundsen dared Captain Robert Falcon Scott through the newspaper. The Englishmen took ponies, few dogs and lots of men while the Norwegians took lots of dogs and few men to the trip and since their ship departed from Norway, they arrivedto the shores of Antarctica.

The Englishmen were very fast at first and had a 2 day head start, but the ponies soon became tired and ill since they were heavy and had tosleep on the surface while the dogs dug warm holes in the snow like polar bears. They had to leave the ponies behind on the middle of the trip. The dogs weren’t enough for allthe men, so they just pulled the sled with food.
The Norwegians were fast because the dogs were the perfect aid through the snow and even though the few men took way moretime to build depots and do the man work the English did in a few hours.

The Englishmen were soon tired and their feet began to freeze. They had to pull the load themselvessince the ponies were dead and they had to send 4 men back with the dogs because the food wasn’t enough.

The Norwegians were the first to get their compasses to keepspinning making a tent with the Norwegian flag and rode happily their way back to the north, while the English, became frustrated by their failure when they saw the Nord tent.Tired and ill had to return even though they didn’t had enough food and 3 men died in the way back.
The book is about the story of the Nord victory and the English failure.
