Campaign to liberate New Granada
The Liberation of New Granada campaign was a military campaign by Simon Bolivar in late 1819 to release the New Granada (now Colombia) from Spanishrule. The campaign was a success and thanks to her particular the idea of the union of New Granada and Venezuela.
At the Congress of Angostura was decreed the establishment of theRepublic of Colombia, a state that would include the former Spanish colonies of the Captaincy General of Venezuela, the Viceroyalty of New Granada and the Audiencia of Quito. All theseterritories, except the south and east of Venezuela, were in Spanish hands. Bolivar decided that after the withdrawal of Pablo Morillo's campaign Apure their winter quarters in Dungeon that wasthe right time to make the planned release of New Granada.
In the first link of Economics, Encarta, mentioned that the importance of this viceroyalty lay in the economic power, thanksto mining, especially silver.

In 1780 there was an uprising of 60,000 Indians against the Spanish, under the leadership ofJose Gabriel Condorcanqui chief who had adopted the name of one of his ancestors, the Incas, Tupac Amaru. Although initially garnered some successes, the uprising was finally crushed in1781 and Tupac executed. Although other similar uprising was quelled in 1814, opposition to the Spanish imperial power grew inexorably throughout South America. The opposition was ledlargely by Creoles of Spanish descent born in America who resented not being able to participate in the affairs of government.
However, the force that would liberate Peru from Spanishrule come from abroad. In September 1820 General Jose de San Martin, who had defeated the Spanish forces in Chile, landed with his army in the Peruvian port of Pisco, in July 1821 ...
