1- FOSSIL FUELS.
From http://www.fossil.energy.gov/education, access section “Energy Lessons”, where there is information about fossil fuels. In pairs prepare a summary presentation about one kind of fuel. You caneither write it down (60-80 words approx.) or do it in PowerPoint or Keynote format (8-10 slides).
If you have time, make an oral presentation to the class.

Fossil energy is that which comes from the obtained biomass millions of years ago and which has undergone major transformation processes until the formation of substances of high content of energy such as coal, petroleum, or naturalgas. We will speak of the oil:

Oil is an oily liquid composed of carbon and hydrogen in different proportions. Found in depths ranging from 600 to 5,000 meters. This resource has been used by humans since ancient times: the Egyptians used oil in the conservation of the mummies, and the Romans, of fuel for lighting.

Oil and its derivatives have many and varied applications. In additionto being a first-rate fuel, also constitutes a fundamental industry raw material, since from oil can be processed fibbers, artificial rubber, plastics, soaps, asphalt, printing inks, rubber for the manufacture of tyres and a number of products covering almost all products from the field.



2- ENERGY GLOSSARY BUILDING AND GAME
On the Internet you may find many glossaries and word lists ondifferent energy topics (use GOOGLE, for instance). Browse some of them and write down 10 words/concepts related to energy that you did not know before. Explain them in your own words and give the equivalent in your own language.
When you finish, play the following game. In pairs, ask your partner about the meaning of the words/concepts that you included in your list, to see if he or she knowsthem. The winner is the student who included the highest amount of unknown words for her or his partner.

1) Waste energy: using different waste as garbage in houses, gas from landfills, methane, resin oil, alcohol residues, medical waste, paper pellets, sludge, tires, solid by-products, agriculturalby-products, biomass, oil fish and straw to create fuel. 2) Uranium Fuel Cycle - The series of stepsinvolved in supplying fuel for nuclear power reactors. It includes mining, refining, the making of fuel elements and their use in a reactor, chemical processing to recover spent fuel, re-enrichment of the fuel material and remaking into new fuel elements.
