mecanismos de nucleosíntesis

ABSTRACT (The origin of chemical elements and the nucleosynthesis mechanisms)
Theproposed mechanisms about the origin of the chemical elements and the main experimental facts that support them are presented here. All those processes that eventually gave new atomic nuclei are intimatelyrelated to the history of the Universe itself. Accordingly with the Big Bang theory, the most widely accepted theory about the origin of the Universe three different stages of formation of atomicnuclei can be distinguished. One of these occurred in the early Universe, the other inside stars and the last one in the interstellar space. There are many questions for which the answer is still pending.However the main mechanisms of nuclear synthesis that have been proposed have sound basis in theoretical concepts and in many experimental facts and observations as well. All of this allows acceptableexplanations about the origin and relative abundances of the chemical elements y the Universe nowadays.

Los estudiantes de licenciaturas de Química emplean la ma teria tanto en forma elemental como en sus infinitas formas combinadas para transformarla y aprovecharla. En la mayoría de los casos sepresta poca o nula atención a la historia que la ciencia ha construido sobre su origen. Varias razones explican lo anterior. Por una parte, los mecanismos de nucleosíntesis son campo de estudio de laastrofísica, la cual es, en general, ajena a los químicos. Recientemente, algunos libros de texto de Química Inorgánica han incluido una pequeña sección de dicada a este tema, de manera tan breve queno se alcanza a cubrir el tema de manera adecuada (Greenwood, 1984; At kins, 2006).
