The verbs below are called non-action verbs.
They are NOT normally used in progressive tenses.

Verbs with a * can sometimes be used, but it has a special meaning.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES:

not: The nurse is hearing his heart beating.
His heart sounds good.
not: His heart is sounding good.
She knows how to be a good nurse.
not: She is knowing how to be agood nurse.

The girl looks pretty.
not: The girl is looking pretty.
She seems nice.
not: She is seeming nice.
I know her; she is my friend.
not: I am knowing her; she is being myfriend.

The thief has my jewelry!
not: The thief is having my jewelry!
That jewelry belongs to me.
not: That jewelry is belonging to me.
I want to stop him!
