Does Number of Sex Partners Affect a Student’s Grade Point Average?

Does the number of sex partners affect a student’s grade point average?We hypothesized that there will be a negative and linear association between number of sex partners and a student’s grade point average. To test our hypothesis on the relationship between number of sexpartners and grade point average, Mr. Castillo sent us out to Mr. Luna and Mr. Sands classrooms on December fifth and December seventh of two thousand twelve to collect data from Wasco High Schoolstudents. We created and then administrated surveys, which consisted of five questions. Question three being the number of sex partners the student has had and question five being the student’s gradepoint average. The remaining questions were there to distract the students from the actual two questions we needed for our project. Before passing out the surveys to students we had to introduceourselves and explain the purpose of our survey. We gave the students five minutes to complete the survey.
While creating and evaluating our scatterplot, we can say that our hypothesis was semi correct.The scatterplot shows a negative but very weak linear association with many outliers. The students fall from zero to six sex partners with a grade point average of one point three to three point eight.More students have zero sex partners and much less with five sex partners. Our linear regression is ŷ= -.11x+2.7 although it is not very accurate because it has an extremely low correlation ofnegative point twenty four. Our linear regression shows that for every sex partner a student has there grade point average will decrease by point eleven it also shows that if a student doesn’t have any sexpartners their grade point average will be two point seven. We started to play with the data and removed the students who have zero or one sex partner; by removing them we got a higher correlation....
