7.1 INTRODUCCION
En el capitulo anterior se estudi6 un tipo de inferencia estadistica, la estimaci6n. El otro tipo, la prueba dehip6tesis, es el tema de estudio en este capitulo. Como ocurre con la estimaci6n, el proposito de la prueba de hipotesis es ayudar al medico, investigador 0 administrador a tomar una decision acerca de una poblacion mediante el examen de una muestra de ella. La estimaci6n y la prueba de hip6tesis no son tan distintas como se podria suponer por el hecho de que en la mayorfa de los libros de texto se dedicaun capitulo por separado a cada una. Como se explica mas adelante, es posible utilizar intervalos de confianza para llegar a las mismas conclusiones que se alcanzan al utilizar los procedirnientos de prueba de hip6tesis que se estudian en este capitulo.
