Tea has been around us for over 5,000 years and has the distinction of being one of the most recognized concoctions around the globe. For this, it is the second commonly consumed liquid in the worldafter water. Over time, this drink has been regarded as a key to good health, happiness, and wisdom in different cultures. Through the years many types of tea have been discovered: green, white,black, oolong, among others, but is red tea which has lately grabbed all of the attention. Also known as rooibos, technically, is not a true tea. It comes from the plant Aspalathus linearis, rather thanthe Camellia plants that produce traditional teas. This brew has an exotic taste and it can be sipped hot or cold. Hot red tea is soothing, while cold is refreshing. Apart from being a delicious and anenjoyable infusion, red tea is a natural and healthy herbal beverage that offers 3 main benefits: it offsets the effects of aging, it helps in weight loss, and it functions as a relaxing sedative.First of all, we all know that aging is a natural process that occurs during all stages of life. There is no way to become young again, but there are many ways to control aging and stayhealthy. Consuming about 600 ml of red tea every day is one of them. Red tea contains antioxidants, free radicals that slow down human aging process. It has been found that this infusion is composed of asubstantial amount of a very special enzyme, known as superoxide dismutase, which is a prime preventer of free radical damage. When a free radical attacks a molecule, causes a chain reaction which canresult in the destruction of a cell. This constant loss of cells generates people´s aging. The antioxidants of red tea have the property to neutralize free radicals, acting as an insurance against someof the more visible effects of aging.
