Relationship between Ecuador and Canada

Ecuador and Canada have enjoyed bilateral official diplomatic relations since 1960. Nonetheless the bilateral relations began at the beginning of the XX,when railroad engineers, mining experts and Canadian missionaries worked in Ecuador.
Nowadays our relations are increasing constantly in sectors like commercial, politic, culture and personal, withmore than 100.000 Ecuadorians who live in Canada and around 2.000 Canadians who live in Ecuador.
The bilateral relations of Canada with Ecuador are guides for the three rules of Americas StrategyCanadian government: prosperity, security and democracy.
Canada’s trade relationship with Ecuador is complementary with the bulk of trade in agricultural commodities: seafood and roses to Canada, andwheat and lentil to Ecuador.
The bilateral commerce of merchandising between Ecuador and Canada amounted US$530 millions in 2012. Canada and Ecuador have a Foreign Investment Protection Agreement(FIPA) which came into force in 1997, and a double taxation avoidance agreement which came into force in 2001. Canadian companies are the leading investors in Ecuador’s nascent mining sector, and theCanadian government was the primary contractor responsible for building the new $440 million Quito International Airport completed in February 2013.
