Restless Heart

Every person is seeking to fill that void within his or her heart. I believe that all humans have a restless heart and that only God can fill our hearts. We often try filling ourlives with superficial happiness, and world possessions. Many times we do not look into ourselves deep enough to discovery who we really are. At the same time, we don’t know how to fill the emptinessand we look to get of this feeling in different ways. For example, some people develop different habits to fulfill their desire to be happy. Some people will turn to shopping even if they don’t havea real need for the objects they buy; other people develop eating disorders, eating more than they need or eating less than they need; other people become obsessed with their body image andconstantly engage in physical exercise. Unfortunately, some of us never find the happiness we pursue.

Augustine tells us from the beginning of his life that he was lost. That he lived a life far from thetruth despite of his search for a life of meaning. Augustine neglected the principles his mother Monica strived to bestow upon him; these principles that he had long refused to see were whatultimately became his salvation. He discovered God alone is the one who can save us and help us take the path of good, only our souls has forgiveness, leaving all vanity, and all the pleasures of the flesh,and following the path to him, with humility of heart and soul together. This helps us to understand that the superficial things of life: money, cars, jewelry, sex, alcohol, etc… are not worth much ifwe do not have God in our hearts. We humans use our wishes and desires as a false fulfillment, which at the end are not necessarily guiding us toward the ultimate source of happiness, God.

In mypersonal experience, when I was looking to fill that emptiness of my soul the question of Gods’ reality often disturbs me. I start to search and search, to find a concrete answer. First, I looked...
