The protagonist of Defoe's fictional autobiography is Crusoe,he is an adventurous and risk-taking man who rejects the expectations of his family for an ambitious life as a matter of fact eighteenthcentury society promoted individualism, seizing opportunities in the economy sector which provide chances for enterprise and enrichment. Moreove he belongs to the trading middle class, his fathercommends this state with a simple and concrete way because he thinks that it’s the best state in the world,not exposed to misery and hardship, not embarrassed with ambition and luxury. He has oneprincipal characteristic in common with the classical hero of travel literature that is to say his restless,as he is searching his own identity in contrast to the one choosen by his father. Crusoe is alsopragmatic as a matter of fact he concentrates his attentions to material things(water,food,a raft..) and he calls with a concrete name that is to say Friday the prisoner that he meets because reason inuseful,feelings are useless.Besides he proves to be intellig, independent, hard-working and industrious as he builds a raft with a lot of mind and working hard,during his shipwreck he teaches himselfa way to survive by trial and error. Robinson,during his adventures,doesn’t grow but anyway he discovers both the world and the importance of 2 matters:puritan’s rational method and the relevance ofreligion in his life. This happens because he has as only reading material a Bible and every day he reads some parts of it. This awakens in him a religious passion therefore this brings him to thankGod for his present situation, instead of curses him indeed he shows that gains beats losses in the consequences of his shipwrecked.Lastly Robinson creates on the island a society similar to the oneof the 18th-century in England with the common ideals of individualism,mobility and material productiveness.|||The novel can be read as a spiritual autobiography in fact he keeps a diary where he...
