• San Juan de Puerto Rico is a meeting place in the Caribbean. The first settlers introduced a culture of the Orinoco River,as the years passed, began a process of cultural ethnic mixing that still characterizes the Contemporary Caribbean.

• A late 15th century the Spanish renamed it San Juan Bautista. Shortly afterwards bartered the European name for the island's capital city, and its rich port on the country. San Juan became the name of the capital and Puerto Rico on the island.

• San Juan was founded by Spanishsettlers in 1521 and is the oldest city in Puerto Rico as well as in the United States. Today San Juan serves as Puerto Rico's largest port and is the island's manufacturing, financial, cultural and tourist center. The metropolitan area population (Spanish: metropolitan area), including San Juan and the municipalities of Bayamón, Guaynabo, Catano, Canóvanas, Caguas, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Carolinaand Trujillo Alto is about 2 million inhabitants, Thus, approximately half the population of Puerto Rico now lives and works in this field.

• San Juan is located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico. The city is located north of Aguas Buenas and Caguas, east of Guaynabo and Bayamon and west of Carolina and Trujillo Alto.

• Old San Juan occupies the western end of a rocky islet at the mouth ofthe bay of San Juan. During the 20th century the main centers of population increased far beyond the walls of the old town and Puerto Rico's main island, and merged with existing settlements east and south of Old San Juan. As a result the city isnow composed of a variety of neighborhoods.
