Los recursos hídricos en nuestro país están afectados en cierta medida por las
descargas de residuales procedentes de los asentamientos humanos y las actividades
agropecuarias e industriales con tratamientos deficientes.Las aguas residuales industriales en general, poseen por sí mismaspropiedades ofensivas que pueden
trasmitirse al cuerpo receptor donde son descargadas. Se hace necesario estudiar
las propiedades físico-químicas y biológicas de estas aguas, no sólo para poder conocer
su poder contaminante y así estimar los problemas ambientales que pudiera generar
su vertimiento inadecuado sino también para poder diseñar, controlar y operar los
distintos procesos de tratamiento odepuración de estas aguas. En este trabajo se
presenta una metodología para la selección del sistema de tratamiento de residuales
líquidos industriales a partir de su caracterización químico-física y biológica. Se
ejemplifica con la caracterización de residuos líquidos de la industria azucarera a partir
de la revisión de trabajos realizados durante más de 20 años por estudiantes en
trabajosde diploma y tesis de maestría en nuestra institución docente. Finalmente, se
concluye que la selección debe basarse tanto en el Análisis Técnico como en el Análisis
Económico, para seleccionar la mejor alternativa y se particulariza en el caso en que
por las características del residual se aconseje realizar tratamiento químico-físico. Esta
metodología sirve de base para el desarrollo demodelos y redes neuronales de gran
uso en las técnicas de inteligencia artificial.

THE INFLUENCE OF INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER ON THE SELECTION OF THE MOST ADEQUATE TREATMENT SYSTEM
In our country, the aqueous resources have being affected in some way for the wastewater discharges from human slums or populationcentres, the agriculture and industry
activities some of them with deficient treatments. The industrial wastewaters have for
their self offensive properties that can be transmitted to the receptor being where they
are discharged. The study of physical, chemical and biological properties of wastewaters is important not only for estimating the environmental problems that they could cause

ling and operating the different wastewaters treatment processes too. In this paper a
methodology for the selection of the industrial wastewaters treatment system in dependence of the physical-chemical andbiological characterization of this wastewater appears. This methodology is exemplified with the wastewaters characterization results
of Cuban sugar industries, through the revision of diploma and master thesis works
carried out during more than 20 years by students of our educational institution. This
methodology is important to develop models and neuronal nets that are used in artificialintelligent techniques. Finally, it is recommended that the selection of the industrial
wastewaters treatment system must be based on the technical analysis combined with
economic analysis, in order to select the best alternative and it is distinguished in the
case in which the wastewater characteristics advise to make physical and chemical
treatment.
