This battle was also called as Battle of Poitiers. It was developed in thearea between the cities of Poitiers and Tours, located in the north-central France, near the village of Moussais-la-Bataille, at the northeast of Poitiers. This battle is known as the most decisivebattle in all of history.
This battle led by Mayor of the Palace Charles Martel on the Frankish (the origin name of France) side against an army led by Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi, Governor-General ofal-Andalus.
This battle was after 21 years that Umayyad conquest Europe, which had begun with the invasion of the Iberian peninsula and after the Muslim go through they follow for military expeditionsinto the Frankish territories of Gaul. These territories were part of the Roman Empire. And if you were part of the Roman empire the Christian Religion were part of you.
On the Middle Age, they fightto preserve the Christianity in Europe. This battle named was crusades. The soldiers gave their lives to preserve what they believes in, and this was the Christianity.
In that period the Muslimwere looking for new territories to expand their empire and their religion. They were looking to become the biggest and the richest one.
At the time of this battle, the Umayyad Caliphate was known asthe first military power. He has wan a lot of territories. The Muslim Empire ruled and domain different parts of the world Syria, Egypt, and North of Africa. And after that, they began to invadeWestern Europe under the leadership of Abd-er-Rahman, Governor of Spain, from the North of Africa go trough the Peninsula and start with the Spanish territories. And after that, they start with theFrankish territories.
