SIDER Analysis
Situation analysis
Barcelona is the capital of Cataluña and the second largest city in Spain. The population varies from 1,600,000 in the city centre to 4,500,000 in the urbanarea.
In addition, Barcelona today is one of the world’s leading tourist centre visited in every moment of the year, thanks especially to the cultural, sport and entertainment environments whichcharacterizes the city and its calendar.
As a result, the city is an attraction for all tourism categories from teenagers to families and art lovers.
Culturally the city proposes a big variety ofmuseums (a very famous Picasso museum just to mention one) as well as theatres and exhibitions. The city itself is an “art exhibition” as is full of attractions as the Gaudi houses and gardens.
Thenightlife is another major attraction and clubs are open every day of the week.
Finally, to satisfy both citizens and tourists Barcelona offers also a big variety of restaurants and bars where ispossible to find traditional and foreign cuisine. “Tapas” (small appetizers) are also very common and is possible it find them in each street of the city.
Identification of the problem
We speakwith many tourist and they say that it’s difficult to access to all the touristic information. The options that the tourists have when they arrive are only two: Go to tourism information points(distributed around the city) or call by phone. These options have disadvantages because are limited by the time and have a cost of displacement or a cost of call and only provide general information.Development of Alternative Solutions and Evaluation of the problems
1) Application for iPhone, which doesn’t requires Internet connection. GPS system tracks and updates your position on the map.You can find the closest metro and bus stations with routes and timetables; also you can find restaurants, hotels, museums, cinemas, theatres, parks and other places of interest.
