America is a country that’s based on freedom. People have certain rights as citizens, but those rights are limited if they begin to harm others. For example, people have the right to smokecigarettes if they want to, but when their smoking is harming others, shouldn’t it be against the law? For many years now, there has been many organizations and governments that have reportedsecondhand smoke is very harmful to nonsmokers. Thousands of people die each year for smoking, and even worse for secondhand smokers. These numbers are very startling, and there should be something done to tryto reduce them.
Even after all of the evidence found today, some people still say I am going to die for a reason anyway a response to avoid the reality of the serious situation that we shouldconfront. “Ever heard a person say I’m not harming anyone by smoking” That person might not believe it, but in reality they are harming others by the smoke that’s being released into the air. Smokingshould be banned from public places and really make a big impact in the American government for ever.
One important thing is that tobacco industries try to get us to think that ventilation systems’ isthe solution to the harmful exposure of secondhand smoke. However, they don’t give all the facts of the situation. Basically, ventilation systems are made to remove the smell from the air, and that’sit. Many of the harmful chemicals in smoke, such as carcinogenic gases, can’t be filtered and they are odorless, tasteless and can’t be seen. Even if this system would work and take away all theharmful agents from the room, the smoke would reach restaurant waitresses before it got to the ventilation system. All the tobacco industry wants is to protect its own interest, like always money it beenput in first place even if it is harming many lives.
