Sor Juana was born on November 12, 1651 in San Miguel Nepantla, in the Viceroyalty of New Spain, present territory of Mexico.Her father left when she borned and lived with his mother at his grandfather, Pedro Ramirez, where there were many books. She learned to read andwrite at a young age, something unusual for a woman at the time. Already at an early age is revealed as a literary and intellectual prodigy, so sheentered to the court of the viceroy of New Spain Antonio de Toledo and Salazar. Her patron was the virreina, Eleanor of Carreto.
 
Driven by FatherNúñez de Miranda, left the court in 1667 to enter to the religious life and devote herself to literature, as it was the only way for an illegitimate childcould continue their studies. Religious life is not meant for Juana Inés insulation in the walls of the convent. By accessing the Order of St.Jerome, founded a salon frequented by the intellectual elite of the time. His library was the largest collection of books in New Spain. In this periodbrought close friendship with the viceroy Maria Luisa Manrique de Lara, who took several texts of Sor Juana to Spain for publication.
 
In his lateryears, after the death of his patrons and members of the Order of St. Jerome, Sor Juana abandoned writing to pursue their religious duties. Somehistorians argue that the Church misogynist authorities forbade him to continue writing. He died in 1695 at age 43, because of a typhus epidemic.
