Student Guide to the Electronic Submission of Assignments
(SafeAssign)

* The electronic copy of yourassignment should be identical to the paper copy that you hand in. Checks will be made. *
How to submit an electronic copy of your assignment through Blackboard:
1. Log onto yourBlackboard, open the module, and enter the ‘Assignments’ section on the left hand side of the page
Here you will find the assignment details:

2. Click on ‘View/Complete’ (Note:if there is more than one assignment for your module make sure that you click on the correct assignment)

Click the Browse button and select the file you wish to upload.
Ifdesired, tick the box next to ‘Global Reference Database’ to have your assignment submitted to Blackboard’s Global Reference Database (if you tick this box, then papers from students at otherinstitutions will be checked against yours when they submit through SafeAssign)
4. Click the Submit button
5. You will then see a green confirmation banner:
6. If you wish tocheck that you have submitted the correct assignment etc. you can do so by clicking on View/Complete
Note: you are only able to submit once therefore if you find that you have submittedthe wrong document you need to contact jim@aber.ac.uk immediately.
SafeAssign (Plagiarism Detection Tool)
Once your assignment has been electronically submitted it is automatically runthrough the SafeAssign software. SafeAssign is used by the University to identify student papers that have an overly-high percentage of text that matches other sources, which may indicate thepossibility of plagiarism. This is highlighted in the SafeAssign report that is created and available for your lecturer to view.
