The present progressive is formed by combining the verb "to be" with the present participle. (The present participle is merely the "-ing" form of a verb.)
Thepresent progressive is used for actions going on in the moment of speaking and for actions taking place only for a short period of time. It is also used toexpress development and actions that are arranged for the near future.

Forma affirmative:
I am reading the newspaper.
He is having a shower.
Weare playing tennis.
Forma interrogative:
Are you reading the newspaper?
Is he having a shower?
Are they playing tennis?
Forma negative:
I’m not readingthe newspaper.
He isn’t having a shower.
We aren’t playing tennis.
Present simple
Use the Simple Present to express the idea that an action is repeated orusual. The action can be a habit, a hobby, a daily event, a scheduled event or something that often happens. It can also be something a person often forgets orusually does not do. The Simple Present can also indicate the speaker believes that a fact was true before, is true now, and will be true in the future. It is notimportant if the speaker is correct about the fact.
