GLOSSARY

1. Academic achievement: is the outcome of education, the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has achieved their educational goals.

2. Accreditation: is a process in which certification of competency, authority, or credibility is presented.

3. Activities: An educational process or procedure intended to stimulate learning through actual experience.

4.Advisor: is normally a person with more and deeper knowledge in a specific area i.e. a specialist.

5. Apprenticeship: is a system of training a new generation of practitioners of a structured competency based set of skills.

6. Assessment: the act of assessing. The evaluation of a student's achievement on a course.

7. Attention: is the cognitive process of selectivelyconcentrating on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things. Attention has also been referred to as the allocation of processing resources.

8. Audiovisual aid: materials using sight or sound to present information; "language tapes and videocassettes and other audiovisuals".

9. Average: an average is a measure of the "middle" or "typical" value of a data set. It is thus a measureof central tendency.

10. Background check: is the process of looking up and compiling criminal records, commercial records and financial records (in certain instances such as employment screening) of an individual.

11. Benchmark: is the process of comparing one's business processes and performance metrics to industry bests or best practices from other industries.

12. Bullying: isa form of aggressive behavior manifested by the use of force or coercion to affect others, particularly when the behavior is habitual and involves an imbalance of power.

13. Business office: is the office where the financial transactions, bookkeeping, etc. for a firm or institution are carried on.

14. By-laws/bylaws: (sometimes also spelled bylaw, by law or byelaw) can refer to a lawof local or limited application passed under the authority of a higher law specifying what things may be regulated by the by-law.

15. Certified teacher: When a teacher is certified, it gives credence to her abilities to manage a classroom and to her knowledge of the subject she teaches.

16. Chief of Staff: is the coordinator of the supporting staff and primary aide to an importantindividual, such as an elected official, general or other military leader, or business executive.

17. Class size: is the average number of students per class, calculated by dividing the number of students enrolled by the number of classes. In order to ensure comparability between countries, special needs programmes have been excluded.

18. Curricular activities: is defined as a program orout-of-class activity, supervised and/or financed by the school, which provides curriculum-related learning and character building experiences.

19. Computer science: is the scientific and mathematical approach to computation, and specifically to the design of computing machines and processes. A computer scientist is a scientist who specialises in the theory of computation and the design ofcomputers.

20. Confidentiality: is the right of an individual patient to have personal, identifiable medical information kept private; such information should be available only to the physician of record and other health care and insurance personnel as necessary.

21. Consent form: a document that someone signs to show that they will allow something to happen.

22. Cooperativelearning: is a method of instruction that has students working together in groups, usually with the goal of completing a specific task.

23. Council: is a group of people called together or chosen for discussion or to make decisions.

24. Credits: is the ascription or acknowledgment of something as due or properly attributable to a person, institution, etc.
