International Forestry Conference “Planted Teak Forests – a Globally Emerging Forest Resource”
Guanacaste, Costa Rica, 2-6 of May 2011

First Announcement

CATIE in cooperation with FAO andTEAKNET will organise in 2011 an international forestry conference that will focus on planted teak forests as a globally emerging forest resource. The conference will offer the opportunity to Meetinternational experts, investors and professionals in teak management and marketing Learn about experiences in other countries Establish contacts for networking and the development of new initiativesBringing together renowned global experts in teak (Tectona grandis) management and marketing, the Conference will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences, strengthen the teak sector by evaluatingsocial, economic, technical and environmental issues and improve networking among its stakeholders by expanding TeakNet´s coverage to Latin America and Africa. Learning from past achievements will helpshape a sustainable future for the sector, contribute to the effective use of donor support in future development projects and improve returns on investments. The Conference will contribute to thesustainable development of forest resources, in particular for the rural populations in teak growing countries, and will provide orientation for investors. Conference Format The conference will inviteselected keynote speakers and welcome a limited number of technical papers that provide state-of-the art overviews of the main topics of interest. Both invited and volunteer presentations will be given inconcurrent sessions during May 2 - 4. The conference will also welcome proposals for special sessions or side-events from organizations or groups.
