Interview With My Mom

I started the interview by asking my mom what her favorite things to do when she was 18 were. She answered with, hanging out with her friends. She also used to enjoy goingto the roller rink on a Friday night for some roller skating with her buddies. She used to go to the movies as well. If she wasn’t going to the movies or roller skating her and her friends used tocruise downtown Guelph in my Papas old dodge dart. She said she also used to indulge in the odd weekend party. My mom and her friends nicknamed the dart “the beast” because it was simply a big ugly fourdoor beast.

When I asked her what health concerns she had back then she told me none. Except for concerns about her weight and figure. She told me the reason for not having health concerns wasbecause she smoked and it didn’t bother her.

I asked her what were the social issues with her and her friends and she said that boys and smoking were on the top of her list. She also told me that whenshe wasn’t concerned about smoking and boys she was concerned about sleep and needing more of it.

I asked her what her first job was and she told me that she worked on a farm collecting chickeneggs. She also told me that she babysat as well. After the egg collecting job she went on to work at burger king.

I asked her what some prices are of some everyday things. She was telling me that abag of chips was about 45 cent and a chocolate bar was about 50 cents. She also told me that jeans from thriftys (which was the cool spot to shop) were 35 dollars. Sweaters were about 25 dollars formthe mall. I asked her how much a meal at burger king was and she told me that the price hasn’t changed much and it was about 3.99 back then.

I asked her if the laws back then were morelenient or stricter. She told me that she hasn’t noticed a difference in how law enforcement deals with warnings and giving out tickets. So even back then having a blown out light meant possibly getting...
