 Charlie is 15 year old, he is starting his first year of high school. This novel is written in letters to an anonymous person, explaining his experiences as they happen. In these letters we learnabout his family and friends. He begins his letters off by talking about his friend, Michael who has committed suicide Charlie also describe his family. His family consists of his mom, his father, hisbrother, and his sister. He talks about other relatives that they only see in holidays and his Aunt Helen. His Aunt Helen was his favorite person in the whole world, Charlie loved her so much but shedied in a car accident.
His father is a very proud and strong man; his mother is usually very quiet and lets her husband handle problems.  She is a bit emotional, and loves her children very much. Hisbrother is a student at Penn State University, and loves cars, models and football. He is now a football player at school. His sister, she and Charlie don’t have a good relation but despite of allthey support each other. She is a senior in high school and has a secret boyfriend throughout the novel. Her boyfriend becomes a secret because one time her parents discover that her boyfriend hits herand they don’t allow this relationship. However she lets him because she gets pregnant and he doesn’t support him.*****
 His friends, Sam, Patrick, Mary Elizabeth, Bob, are a key throughout thisnovel.  Charlie meets Patrick in his shop class, and they become best friends. Sam, Patrick’s sister, becomes best friend of Charlie, too, but during the novel it is revealed that Sam falls in love withCharlie. However, she begins to date an older boy called Craig; Sam dates him until she learns he has been cheating her the whole time. * Patrick is homosexual. His partner, Brad try to hide his sexualpreferences but Brad's father finds out and beats him, so Brad and Patrick have to break.
