Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally, it’s a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. It’s a holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States. While perhaps religious in origin. Thanksgiving is now primarily identified as a secularholiday.
The date and location of the first thanksgiving celebration is a topic of modesr contention. Though the earliest attested thanksgiving celebration was onSeptember 8, 1565 in what is now Saint Augustine, Florida, the traditional “first thanksgiving” is venerated as having occurred at the site of Plymouth plantation, in1621. the Plymouth celebration occurred early in the history in one of the original thirteen colonies that became the united states, and this celebration becameand important part of the American myth by the 1800s

Today, thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday ofNovember in the United States. Thanksgiving dinner is held on this day as a gathering of family members and friends. U.S. tradition compares the holiday with a mealheld in 1621 by the Wampanoag and the pilgrims who settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Its continued in modern times with the thanksgiving dinner, traditionallyfeaturing turkey, playing a large role in the celebration of thanksgiving. In the U.S. certain kinds of food are traditionally served at thanksgiving meals. Firstly, baked or roasted turkey is usually the featured item of any thanksgiving feast table, so much so that thanksgiving is sometimes referred to as “turkey day”.
