The ISO Management Series of Standards
The ISO-based series of management standards define the requirements for the most widely accepted model for management systems and quality assurance in the world. In fact 400 of the United States' 500 largest public corporations (The Fortune 500) have operations registered to one or more ISO-based management systems standards.

ISO boasts over onemillion ISO 9001 certifications issued in over 170 countries and economies according to The ISO Survey of Certifications 2009. Based upon the eight quality management principles (see survey results / read the article) ISO 9001 Quality management systems - Requirements includes requirements for a process approach

ü to ensure that customer requirements and statutory and regulatory
requirementsthat apply to its products are determined and met

ü to establish policies and measurable objectives

ü to monitor and measure the effectiveness of its processes

ü to achieve continual improvement of the effectiveness of its
management systems in fulfilling customer requirements, enhancing
customer satisfaction and achieving objectives.

The most effective ISO-based managementsystem implementations are found where top management has transformed its vision and strategy statements into an integrated set of objectives and measures that describe their organization's long term drivers of success; and, has recognized the value these systems have in protecting their good name and/or brand image.
