III. Characters
A. Main Characters
* Kino – He was a poor diver that gathers pealrs from the sea. A good man that only wants the best for his family, but when he is obsessed with something he can lose control. He was young and strong, with black hair, his eyes were warm and fierce, with a thin andcoarse mustache.
* Juana - A woman that wants the best for her son and husband. She also gets obsessed, but she knows when something is going wrong or when something bad is going to happens.
* Coyotito - He was just a little baby that could learn a lot if they gave him a chance, but sadly he died.
A. Minor Characters
* Juan Tomas - The brother of Kino, he wasalways helping him and keeping him safe.
* Apolonia - Juan Tomas wife, she was also caring, she helps Kino and Juana when they need them.
* The Doctor - He was a mean person that does not respects other peoples race, he was greedy and wants everything for him even though he was rich.
* The Priest - He wasn’t so good person, because he was also greedy. When he heardthat Kino found the pearl, he began to remember things he had done for Kino, so he could pay him.
* The Servant - He did not want to be so mean when Juana asked for help from the doctor, but he had to because if not he could lose his job.
* The pearl buyer - He was greedy and likes to cheat on people. He knew that the pearl worth’s a lot but he acts likes if it doesn’t worthanything.

IV. Setting
In the fishing village of Tasos, in the Coast of Mexico.

V. Plot
Kino woke up, a scorpion bites Coyotito, his son, and they want help from the doctor. Kino finds a pearl, everybody wants it from him, he goes to sell it but they told him that it worth’s nothing, someone attacked Kino and defending himself he accidentally killed him, trackers go after Kino theyaccidentally kill Coyotito, Kino and Juana returned to the village, Kino threw away the pearl.

VI. Summary
The story is about a family (Kino, Juana, and Coyotito) that finds a great pearl, they decide to sell it but they been told that is worthless. That night someone went to attack them and Kino defending himself accidentally kills the person and they decide to escape from town but the sametrackers went after them and killed their baby.

VII. Conflict

The problem of this story is that they do not know what to do with the pearl.

VIII. Point of View

It is an excellent story, it makes you have different feelings, thoughts and it makes you think. Even though the ending was sad it was fantastic story.

IX. Analyze the following statement and express your thoughtsa. The Doctor “Have I nothing to do than cure insect bites for little Indians”? I am a doctor, not a veterinary”
* I think that he compare them with animals because they are not from his race and they are poor people, he is a selfish person without good feelings, that’s why he said that he is a doctor for people and not for animals.
b. Do you think that Kino would be seen withinterest if hadn’t found the pearl?
* No, because they only were interested in him now that he found the pearl, they wanted to be payback for all the help and thing they gave him in the past.
c. This paragraph compares the human being with animals. What is the comparison?
* It says that humans always want more than they have, they are never satisfied, people are avariciousand selfish, and animals get satisfied with things they have. Ex. Humans have a house but they want a mansion, and animals just need a place to get cover.
d. What happens to people that becomes rich?
* They get really greedy and mean, they don’t like to help or share with anyone. They get avaricious; they’ll always want more and more until they end up with nothing.
