The worst class I taught was the class I taught on present and past participles as adjectives. This happened during my students’ week of evaluations. Since my studentswere supposed to be in evaluations, I neglected asking my tutor where my students had left off the day before my teaching practice. In fact, I had heard they were having their English written test thevery same day I had my teaching practice with them. I assumed that I wouldn’t teach that day.
I had my teaching practice on Wednesdays. That Wednesday morning, I administered an English writtentest to my students. A student asked if they were going to have classes with me that day in the afternoon. I asked if they were having a test in the afternoon. He said they weren’t because the test hadbeen postponed. It was almost noon when I learned that. I had a little more than an hour to prepare for my teaching practice that day. I went for lunch and decided to simply chill out because Icouldn’t do much in less than an hour.
When I arrived at my classroom my students were already there. My tutor was there and she told they had started a new lesson plan. I didn’t have a copy of it so Ihumbly asked my tutor if she could lend me hers. I hadn’t checked the lesson plan at all. I hadn’t looked up for new words, or checked pronunciation. I was in hot water. The topic was no challengegrammatically speaking: present and past participles used as adjectives. However, there were two words new for me, and four or five words whose pronunciation I wasn’t sure of. To check the meaning of the newwords, I lent a dictionary and looked them up. Concerning the words whose pronunciation I didn’t know, I just pronounced them the way I considered they should be pronounced. Fortunately, afterchecking their pronunciation in a dictionary, I felt relieved because I had pronounced them correctly.
