Machiavelli was born in Florence in 1469. He came from a wealthy family which gave him a pretty good education, therefore at his early age he said he wanted to be taking office. He did for 14 yearsbut because of his belief he was fired. So then he started writing.
Related of his beliefs, he defined State as highest form of human association. It is indispensable for the promotion of humanwelfare. State is to be worshipped even by sacrificing the individual for the interest of the state. A ruler must remember that whatever brings success is due to power. For acquiring political power he canuse any type of means. Political statesman plays important role in organizing state, and providing it with safety and security. To him the power of the state is the end of the state. i.e. Everystate must aim at maximizing its power. The failure of the state it this enterprise will throw it into great turmoil. Consequently he confined his attention to the means best suited to the acquisition,retention and expansion of power.
He cannot really be said to have a theory of obligation separate from the imposition of power; people obey only because they fear the consequences of not doing so,whether the loss of life or of privileges. And of course, power alone cannot obligate one, inasmuch as obligation assumes that one cannot meaningfully do otherwise.
Machiavelli understood Politics as apermanent and conflictive process that differ from what Hanna Arent believed that is a process of action, communication and public sphere.
Prince is his most famous book, although many critics havesaid that this book doesn’t really represent what his beliefs are because he wrote it in a time of large-scale blackmail, violence and political conflicts, and when men started to have some dominanceover nature.
In this work he divided politics from theology saying that there is no moral basis on which to judge the difference between legitimate and illegitimate uses of power. Rather, authority...
