Does public transport spark regeneration? The case of the metro line number 5 in Santiago of Chile.
Focus in the stretch between San Pablo and Gruta de Lourdes stations.In January 2010 the underground extension of line 5 (till Pudahuel station) is inaugurated. The pericentral and degraded municipalities of Quinta Normal and Lo Prado are easily connected with thecentre of the city.

After three year from the opening of the subway, projects are taking place along the axe of San Pablo Avenue, from the centre to the West. Construction sites of residential towershave started, especially near Gruta de Lourdes station. The aim of the dissertation is to analyse if the change in this area involves just real estate development or if it involves other types ofprojects, concerning for instance commerce, pedestrian infrastructure, etc. The research also want to study if there will be a change not only in the number of the inhabitants of the borough,particularly in the proximity of the station, but also in the socioeconomic level of the people willing to leave in this area.
