They H A D been that way F O R about two hours when a couple of thieves passed by and saw the open door. They crept I N T O the house ,which seemed perfectly deserted, they B E G A N to steal everything they could lay T H E I R hands on. They took tables and C H A I R S, pulled paintings off wall, even rolled U P carpets. But TH E newlyweds neither spoke N O R moved.
“I can´t B E L I E V E this”, thought the husband. “They´ll take everything W E own, and S H E won´t made a sound”. “Why doesn´t H E call for help?” thewife asked herself.
Eventually the T H I E V E S noticed the silent, motionless couple and, mistaking T H E M for wax figures, stripped them O F their jewelry, watches, A N D wallets. But neitherhusband nor wife uttered A sound.
The robbers hurried away with their loot, and the N E W L Y W E D S sat through the night. A T dawn a policeman W A L K E D by and, noticing the open door, stuck in hishead to ask I F everything was all right. “Is this Y O U R house? What happened to all your furniture?” And getting no response, he raised H I S hand to hit the man.
“Don´t Y O U dare!” cried the W IF E, jumping to H E R feet. “That´s I S new H U S B A N D, and if you lay a finger on H I M, you´ll have to answer to M E!” “I won!” yelled the husband. “Now G O and close the door” .
