Present Simple Tense
Use the Simple Present to express the idea that an action is repeated or usual. The action can be a habit, a hobby, a daily event, ascheduled event or something that often happens. It can also be something a person often forgets or usually does not do.
Subject + am/ is/are + verb + Complement
Examples:
* I am in the Doctor.* I play tennis.
* She does not play tennis.
* Does she play tennis?
* Yes, she does. (short answer)
* Yes, she plays tennis. (complete answer)
* No, she doesn’t.
* No,she doesn’t play tennis.
Present Continuous Tense
Use the Present Continuous with Normal Verbs (to walk, to eat) to express the idea that something is happening now, at this very moment. It can alsobe used to show that something is not happening now.
Subject + [ am/ is/are + verb(-ing)] + Complement
Examples:
* You are eating fish.
* You are not watching TV.
* Are you eating fish?* Yes, i am eating fish.
* No, i am not eating fish.
Past Simple Tense
Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past.Sometimes, the speaker may not actually mention the specific time, but they do have one specific time in mind.
Subject + was / were + verb + Complement
* They were in Paris.
* I was not there.
*I saw a movie yesterday.
* I didn't see a movie yesterday.
* Did you have dinner last night?
* Yes, I did.
* Yes, I had a dinner last night.
* No, i didn´t.
* No, I didn´thave a dinner last night.
Past Continuous Tense
Use the Past Continuous to indicate that a longer action in the past was interrupted. The interruption is usually a shorter action in the Simple Past.Remember this can be a real interruption or just an interruption in time.
Subject + [ was / were + verb (-ing)] + Complement
Examples:
* I was watching TV when she called.
