Anybody Wanna Be An Astronaut?

“Houston..., the Eagle has landed.”
Those words were magical to me. They meant that Human Beings, Homo Sapiens, werepresent on a new world, another planet: the Moon! The date was July 20, 1969, the time was 9:32 Eastern time. While I was happy for mankind, I was sad for myself. Why? Because I had wanted to be there!When I was a little critter, being an Astronaut was on my list of things I wanted to be when I grew up; the other two were Detective and Lawyer. Over the years, I did do something about those lasttwo. I took classes in Criminal Justice while I worked as a Security Officer, then I took classes for Para-Legal Law. Neither of them fit me. I needed something else. Well, one day I found it. Itwas a short-term event, but it had long-term affects.
In early 2010, while cruising one of my favorite sites: the NASA website, I came across an interesting link. It was for an event called ATX(Astronaut Training Experience). Here is what they wrote about it:
“Have you ever wanted to train like an astronaut? The Astronaut Training Experience (ATX) program immerses you in the exciting world oftoday’s astronauts with realistic astronaut training. You will hear first-hand from a veteran NASA astronaut, experience a space shuttle mission simulation and perform hands-on space explorationactivities. Imagine yourself at the controls of the space shuttle, feeling the g-forces of spaceflight or preparing for launch at Kennedy Space Center.”
I was hooked before I even finished reading! Iwas excited. But, despite my excitement, I did not act on it. Because when I did the math - pay for training, fly to Florida, get a room, rent a vehicle, feed my belly, and have emergency moneyavailable - I backed down.
