peachLadies and Gentlemen:

Today I want to share with you, my newfound knowledge of the bill of rights, that we as American citizens are privileged to be guaranteed by our government.

In the past three years, I have heard people bring up that subject of the bill of rights; on the new I hear people talking all the time about them, especially when the news is about, trials, courts orlawsuits. I could understand that the people involved in the news used one amendment or the other, to get justice or seek refuge and help from someone, but I could not in truth understand exactly what the bill of rights really was, until I read about the Revolutionary War of 1776.

The main reason history gave me the opportunity to learn about the Bill of Rights was because I learned that way before mytime, an my parents time, life was much different from what it is today. Back in the time of the thirteen colonies, People knew for a fact that governments did not allow a lot of basic and common sense practices of today. It was common knowledge to be subservient to government and royalty, You could not say what you thought, it could get you thrown in jail, even executed.

As we gained ourIndependence and formed our own government, we were able to write our countries constitution, therefore our own laws. But being a democracy has its limitations too, when the majority of people want something does not mean that everyone in the whole country wants the same thing, there is always someone that does not agree, or believe different than the majority. And to protect certain individualrights against the majority rule, the Bill of rights was created.

Allow me to try and explain these amendments starting with the first: Freedom of Religion, this is one of the most important ones because it constitutes what each individual truly believes in, regardless if you believe in Alien Gods, The Sun or The Moon, as long as you don’t break the countries law, you can worship whomever youwant, we have to remember that the reason many colonist left their home countries was because they were prosecuted for their beliefs.

The first amendments also guarantees the freedom of speech and press, this gives people the ability to voice their beliefs without fear of prosecution, Others can say what they want as long as it is true and does not endanger the safety of the public. This in truthgives us the ability to be better educated and informed, helping us make better decisions about our future. And we also have the right to petition our government, for any need we might have that they can provide or facilitate.

The second amendment is, I believe, the true freedom provider; it gave the original colonist the ability to over through their oppressive government. Many countriesthat today have dictators or oppressive rulers are countries which citizens cannot protect them selves, because either they do not posses the education or the brute strength to over through their governments. The US government gives its citizens the security to bear arms for that reason, and now a days, also helps protect our homes against criminals when the police forces sometimes cannot.

Thethird amendment is a bit outdated, and I believe it has not been used for a long time, but I am sure it was very necessary back in the day.

The fourth amendment is one of the most used now a days, it is portrayed on every court, and police show on television, it protects the home as a safe haven from government forces, these being, police, military or other agencies to just barge in your homeun-announced and / or without permission and search or confiscate any of your property without probable cause, this means with out a very good reason, and after reasonable proof has been provided to a judge that you house.

As you can see, In Colonial United States these rights were a real lifeline and true guarantees that the new founded government meant business, and things were forever going...
