The Amazon dolphin, Inia geoffrensis, also called boto or pink river dolphin has bulbous forehead and a thin and elongated snout, ideal for catching fish in the branches, or to remove the silt fromthe riverbed in search of crustaceans. (National Geographic, 2009)

-Distribution and general aspects: It spans the Orinoco, the Amazon and the rivers of northern Bolivia.
Its color varies fromlight brown to pink and bluish gray, with darker at the top and as the years pass. They also have broad pectoral fins, dorsal fin reduced (to move in confined spaces) and small eyes, to find their preyusing echolocation.
It has a prominent nose, long, thin with 25-28 pairs of teeth in the jaws. The front teeth are pointed, while the posterior teeth are flatter and cupped. The two types of teethserve different functions: grasping the prey and crush it.
Unlike marine dolphins, cervical vertebrae are not fused together, allowing them to flex the neck at an angle of 90 degrees and thus, maneuverthe trees. Weighing up to 200 kilos and 2.50 meters in length, the dolphin of the Amazon is the largest of the four species of river dolphin known.
The other three species live in the Ganges(India), the Indus (Pakistan), on the Yangtze (China) and in the Río de la Plata (Argentina and Uruguay). Although they look similar, these four species belonging to the same family. (National Geographic,2009) (Mark Jenkins, 2011) (Kathy Kranking, 2007)


Feeding: generally the river bottom and its preferred diet consists of crabs and small fish that are caught by echolocation and to the surface.(TodoAnimales.com, 2010) (Kevin Schafer, 2005) (National Geographic, 2009)

Habits: He is intelligent and very sociable. Easily relate with humans, especially those who travel in small boats, whichare close to the spirit of play and sounds answer with its siren song.
Usually swim in pairs, but in special circumstances to form groups of 20 individuals.
