Radioactive People
Nuclear facilities had existed since human kind started to manage nuclear activity. Nuclear manage is very dangerous, and without the restriction and their rules of how to managing it, they could be consequences that could be regretful. From nuclear warfare from the atomic energy, all of those use and manage nuclearmaterial, that are not safe to people who do not know how to manage it. Nuclear activity started from Martin Klaproth(Outline) the discovery of Uranium in the eighteen century, to Wilhelm Rontgen that found the ionizing radiation in the late nineteen century, to the discovery of x-rays, to the study of radioactivity. The discovery of the neutron James Chadwick in 1932, (Outline) to the ProjectManhattan and the first atomic weapons, these are some of the advancements that the nuclear branch had in the last two centuries. Scientists didn’t know about the trouble that they may get into when managing nuclear material. The advances on this science we have in this time are large enough to create energy from the nuclear material. The first nuclear fission discovered by Enrico Fermi in 1932,(Outline) then the research of a stable nuclear reaction, created the first nuclear facility named Chicago pile-1, and helped in the research of the Manhattan project. (Chavis) Nuclear facilities/power should be prohibited because of the danger that can occur if there is a meltdown, the life or lives it takes and the uncontrollable reactions that occur if a meltdown takes place. (Outline)
Thedanger of nuclear facilities is high if not managed well or if a natural disaster happens. The most dangerous situation that a nuclear disaster can happen is when a meltdown happens. A nuclear facility is made up of two towers one for cooling and the other contain the nuclear generator. The nuclear generator contains fuel rod that contains uranium and that is what starts the fission. The uranium corestarts to undergo fission and that is what produces heat. The fuel rods are submerged in water that cools the rods in a stable temperature that is not dangerous. The water is heated until it converts to steam and move the steam turbines that converted into electrical energy. It looks easy, and eco-friendly, it may be, but what happens during a meltdown, is another story. The danger of a meltdownis high when the fuel rods are not cooled down. The fission in the uranium core is a stable chain that heats the rods but if the water cooler does not cool the rods the rods will melt due of the high temperature. They are three security systems of nuclear generator, the first is control rods that stopped the nuclear fission, and this cannot work if the fuel rods are highly heated. Also watercoolants that cool the rods to a stable temperature but it may not be enough if the rods are heated up to twelve-hundred thousand Celsius this cannot work also if the energy output is off.( AciaNetMedia) The second safety systems are coolant that is sprayed into the generator, but it can fail if not ready, is powered by a diesel engine. The third is a generator that converts steam into water so it canbe cooled off, but if the temperature is too high it will not work. This can also be produce by human if they do not how to manage the generator. This happened in the nuclear meltdown of Fukushima, Japan during the tsunami of 2011. (Zyga) It is seem that even the best safety measures could fail in a nuclear meltdown. It cannot be safe if the measures are not “bullet-proof” and “human-proof”.(Zyga)(Matson)(AciaNetMedia)
Some reactions of managing nuclear materials are just so dangerous for the human being. Radiation has killed many since it was discovered, the people that are exposed to that damaging form of energy, don’t live to tell their story. Radiation may be contracted, if that´s the right word, by different only by one way, managing any type of nuclear material. Any nuclear...
