As result of the previous studies I’ve taken and knowledge I’ve acquired on reading and listening some authors explaining what Literature is, I, personally define it as “The written and oral registerof human history under some qualities and traits that gives to the production (oral or written) the characteristics to be considered as a literary work”. Therefore, not all the published works foundnowadays are literary works; some of the main differences between literary works and no literary works are the following listed and explained below.
Literary texts tend to teach the reader some kindof life lesson; on the other hand, the non literary works tend to allow the reader to simply enjoy the texts. The literary works utilize metaphors and symbols to show and enhance the protagonist’s(the main character, usually the hero) adventure throughout the novel and also are usually read to teach rather than for entertainment, in contrast to the non literary ones where The main character stillmay change as they go through their “adventure”, however it usually lacks in metaphors and symbols, There’s no need to reread any of the text, because there are no layers of complication rather itmeans what it says.
The book I consider a literary work and which I’ll explain and justify why I think so, it’s “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer. The reason why I consider this book as a literary work isbecause it contains some very clear examples of literary traits like: Metaphor “Forks was literally my personal hell on Earth” (Chapter 1, p.25). Simile “his fingers were ice-cold, like he’d beenholding them in a snowdrift before class.” (Chapter 2, P.45). Symbolism “and so the lion fell in love with the lamb, what a stupid lamb; what a sick, masochist lion.” (Chapter 13, p.274).
