1. ¿Cuáles son las diferencias operacionales principales entre McDonald’s (McD) y Burger King (BK)?
Burger King and McDonald’s are known as twoof the largest and most successful fast food chain restaurants in the world. While both have many similarities, they have different operational strategies setting them apart from one another. The twofamous fast food chains each have a unique way in which they operate and manage their companies.
McDonalds and Burger King both operate based on the concept to deliver quality and convenience.However, this being said, McDonalds prime focus is on quality while Burger King is big on personalization. It is most obvious as their slogan states “Have it your way (BK) and “Doing it All for you”(McDonald’s). The main operational difference between Mcdonald’s and Burger King is how they cook their hamburgers.
McDonald’s uses a “batch process” that allows humans to sear, turn and pull thepatties. They use this process to make burgers in bulk, known as a “Made to stock” process.
Burger King uses a Continuous Chain Broiler assembly process which is comparative to an assembly line, howeverit uses human intervention. BK uses a “made to order” process which is why they use the assembly chain process to cook one by one. After burgers are made they were placed on a steam table where theyare stored for no more than 10 minutes.
McDonalds process doesn’t have inventory like Burger King therefore all the buns and burgers are mated during the assembly process. Burger King mates theirbuns and burgers before the assembly process because they have such a large variety of products. Their whoppers and burgers have different sizes. Mcdonald’s has less products but produces them moreoften which is why their burgers are more standardized. This is one reason why Burger King and McDonalds have different cost drivers.
