Hole saw
Used for cutting large, fixed, diameter holes in wood or plastic. They will usually cut up to a depth of 18mm - deeper versions are available. Best used in a power drill at low speed as the blade saws it's way through the material.
Sharpening - could be done with a fine triangular file - as for an ordinary saw.
G Clamp
Probably the most widely used and versatile clamp. It can beused to clamp a workpiece to a work surface or two parts of a workpiece together. Jaw openings range from about one inch to over 8 inches.. The end of the screw section normally has a swivel head which enables the clamp to sit on irregular surfaces.
Claw Hammer
The most popular hammer for general work, available with a wooden (often hickory), glass-fibre or steel handle; with or without rubbergrip. The most popular weights are 455-680g (16 to 24oz). The claw is normally curved, and incorporates a 'V' cut-out to draw nails from timber. The claw can be used to lever up floorboards or where other places where a lever is required; care must be taken (especially with cheaper models) as the force applied can easily weaken the joint between the handle and the head.

Ball Pein
Normallyused by engineer's, the pein in this case, is rounded and is usually used for shaping metal and closing rivets. Ball pein hammers are available from 55 - 1100 (4 oz up to 2 lb.), 110 - 165g (8oz 12oz) are the most suitable for general use. Handles are normally wood, usually Ash or Hickory.

Screwdrivers

Screwdrivers are self-explanatory. They are used to drive in and remove screws. They areinexpensive and readily available from most hardware stores. Some screwdrivers have magnetic tips too.
They come in a range of sizes but the two most common are the Phillips head and the Flat head. The Phillips head screwdriver has a cross shaped end, whereas the Flat head screwdriver has a single flat end.
Rubber mallet

Rubber mallets are often used in the horticulture and irrigation industry,when creating new paving or brickworks, or when pulling up (and returning) paving so that irrigation can be installed out.
The rubber mallet allows you to apply force to a paved area without damaging (or breaking) it.

Pickaxe

Used for breaking up very hard surfaces by hand.
Multimeter

A multimeter is a tool which can be used to measure the current, voltage and number of amps within anelectrical system.
Hack saw

A hack saw can be used to cut through large PVC pipes or poly pipe. If you want to cut through smaller PVC pipes you should use a pipe cutter.
Cordless Drill (with hammer action)

Used to undo valve screws and remove control panels, or install new control panels on walls.
Axe

Used mainly for splitting timber logs that have been cut into lengths. Also usefulfor cutting tree roots and other stubborn vegetative material.
Wire strippers

Wire strippers are (obviously) used to strip wires. This is often required when installing a control unit in a new irrigation system; where you have to strip and join electrical wires together.

Wheelbarrow

The builders' wheelbarrow is more strongly built than those used in back gardens. It has a welded steelchassis, base plate and heavy rimming around the outer edge of the steel tray. The handles are either wood or steel. The tyres are pneumatic. It has a capacity of 0.15m3.
Wheelbarrows are expensive and should be properly maintained to keep them in good working order:
* The tyre should be inflated to the correct pressure.
* The wheel axle should be greased regularly.
* Don't leave plantmaterial in the barrow overnight as it holds moisture and encourages rust.
Tape measure

Tapes are used to measure the size of animals and/or plants and also to measure grid areas for observation.
This is a flat tape with measurements marked along its length. Better quality measuring tapes are made of fibreglass and are wide enough to rest in place when they are laid on the ground.
