The French revolution has its roots with the philosophicalmovement called the enlightment. Ideas from the enlightment such as rights, religious toleration, and power of citizens to chose a governor.
These created a sense of unconformity and people form the lower classes in France (which was approximately 98% of the population) start planning a way to demand all of this to their governors which got all of the tax money for them selves and their castlesand left the town people poor and starving almost to death on the streets of Paris.
But what really got the people of France decided to organize a proper revolution was the U.S. independence which came to an end on the 4th of July of the same year the French Revolution started 1789. This gave French people believe that if the Americans can do it they can also.
The discontent of the Frenchpeople came form how they were threated by the upper classes of France for example:
There were 3 classes of people in the XVII France the Clergy and Monarch made up the first class this class included all of the government people and religious leader of France they were the richest of all and got the 100% of their money from the taxes paid by the town people.
The second class was formed the noblesthey had important positions on the clergy and the military they were rich but not even remotely rich as the first class people.
The third class was called Commoners this one was made by everyone else: Agricultures, blacksmiths, tailors, etc. They paid a high rate of taxes to keep ownership of land and to be able to produce their products. They had neither rights nor voice in the government. Also on the year 1787 the economical crisis that hit the country because of the lack of food and rise of prices of food and also increased the amount of people unemployed which led to a starving France with people dyeing on the streets due to the extreme lack of food for the poor people (which were the majority) but even on top of that because of the top class kept spending so much money onluxuries and wars they called a meeting in which they agreed to rise the taxes!
Having said that the French parliament convoluted on Versailles the 5th of May of 1789 a meeting held all years to argue about the problems had on the government. In it people voted on classes but the 3rd class was always left apart because the nobles and the Clergy will always vote for the same reasons. The Commonersargued on this meeting about the government and proposed that they voted by people not as classes but as it was to be expected the other classes refaced and so they stayed the same. This made the 3rd class pretty upset and so they drafted a constitution according to what they thought was fair and went to the pace accorded where they would meet just to find out that the leaders from the other statesweren’t there this endangered the whole 3rd class and so on the 14th of July on 1789 the people sick of this regime started a revolution.
It started with the siege of “Le Bastille” which was at the time a prison and an armory on Paris. People from Paris rallied around and so attacked the prison which was only guarded by 115 people, it fell easily and with it people from all around France startedrioting and killing people; Louis XVI was soon informed of this and that he could no longer trust the army nor anyone. He was left alone with a France that cried for his head.
Not long after people from all around France came to Versailles to meet with Louis XVI and force him to agree with the new treaty and declaration of the rights of men. Louis accepted and marched towards Paris in a gesture...
