SUMMARY
There is controversy over the origin of the rabbit, but the research indicates that the forerunner of the rabbit is 31million years in the mountain areas of Europe. It was in the nineteenth century, when it began to fix the characteristics, that took place and the races of rabbits as we know it today. There are currentlymore than 30 breeds of domestic rabbits to vary in weight and size. The rabbit is not an ruminant. however, it can grow and reproduce drinking of plant food, not useable for the most part in humanfood. It makes his breeding and consumption very appropriate for the areas where the grain and vegetable foods are limited. The aim of this research was to establish a plan of genetic improvement in therabbit farms area of the Bale Zootechnical of the FMVZ of the UMSNH. On the basis of the month of February of this year are called for the production records in the sector cunícula with whom it hasbeen decided to establish a plan for genetic improvement to improve the size of litter at birth, because the number of kits born alive is vital to production and performance of the farm. Method used wasthe selection of tandem to improve a single feature in it sector. The duration of the project of genetic improvement cannot be stipulate that this depends on how much is to delay the results to besizeable and reach the goals.
