Have you ever seen how professionaldancers move, and wished you could dance like that too? Belly dance is a Western-coined name for a traditional Middle Eastern dance, especially raqs sharqi. On the other hand, Tango dance steps arehot, passionate, and precise. They are also one of the most popular social dances around. The tango dance is a more formal dance than the belly dance according to its music, movements and steps, and itsspecific dance outfit.
Tango and belly dance are inspired in different types of music. Tango music was first inspired in Cuban music, the Habanera which is itself a mix of African and French music.The instruments used in tango music are the violin, guitar and flute. It uses orquestra music. Afterwards, when Italians arrived to Buenos Aires, a new instrument was introduced, the bandoleon,giving tango’s music a whole new rhythm. In contrast to Tango, Belly dance’s music includes drums, string instruments, the Mizmar (or Surnay), which is similar to a clarinet, and the Ney (or Qassaba) thatis so ancient it appears in Egyptian pyramid wall paintings.All these instruments are still used in Belly Dancing music today and often teamed with more modern keyboards, guitars, accordians, andviolins. The belly dance music is based in traditional music.
