Abstract

The following paper was written to inform people about aspect related with the use of technology for English classes. The purpose of this paper was written with educational intention. A summary of concepts about technology, the differences between a private high school with a privatehigh school, the use of technology on English classes, and the advantages and disadvantages that technology can have when it is apply on classes are presented on this paper. The second aspect is to show the obtained results and the opinion of students from 9th grade of both mentioned high school about the technology and use it in English classes are going to be described.

The incorporation of technology in education is important because we can get to know the challenges presented by new trends, especially through the global communication. It is important that students become familiar with the concept and the use of technology in order to provide bettertools for the future job market. The use of technological tools such as multimedia, email, CD room materials, lab computers, and web pages, teaching can be more organized so that students can be prepared for the learning process. Educational courses based on the learning skills can be designed in new and more effective ways.

Many recent studies have been focused on the use of technologyon classes. Boyle (1993) is “against the encroachment of information technologies on higher education (Boyle, 1993).” Information technologies, he states, "may actually be making us stupid (Boyle, 1993).” But many experts agree with the use of technology and they also think that technology can be very useful if you want to learn another language.

Modern technology started by the use oftelephone lines and at the starting time it was used only for sending news to people. However, after the radio had invented the idea of sending news by wire, this method as well as the telegraph became useless when the era of wireless technology appeared as a reality in formal communication. This technology has not only changed our communication system but also our lifestyle. A recent research hasshowed that more than 80% of total people in the world use the help of technology and most of them use it at least once everyday. English Teachers would like to implement and involve the technology in the English class, but in most of the cases, technology can be expensive and some institutions do not have the necessary tools for a better quality of technology.



Consequently the followingcentral research question emerged:

• What are the technological resources that Private and Public High Schools need to have for an efficient English Class?

And the following sub research questions were proposed:

• What are the differences in technological resources used in a public school over private school?

• What are the advantages and disadvantages of using technology in anEnglish Class?



The following section reviews the most important aspects of the research



Review of literature



Costa Rica's education needs some changes in their teaching programs because their methods tend to be outdated. That is why education needs to grow and be updated to the today changes. A perfect example of the classes that should be in the hands of thetechnology is the English classes and thanks to the new tools we have more knowledgeable and fluent English students. One of the problems that could appear when including technology in education is that before you can implement technology in classrooms, you need basic pre-conditions and a level of infrastructure to facilitate it.
