Según el autor Arístides Rengel-Romberg, en su obraTratado de Derecho Procesal Civil venezolano. El litisconsorcio es aquella situación jurídica en que se hallan diversas personas vinculadas por una relación sustancial común o por varias relaciones sustanciales conexas, que actúan conjuntamente en un proceso, voluntaria o forzosamente, como actores o demandado o como actores de un lado y como demandados del otro.
