TRANSLATION REPORT

THE STRUCTURE OF THE BOOK

Translating the book meant approaching the text while being mindful of some factors, one is the complete voice or tone of the book, what theposition of the author is and specific details concerning the syntax and the vocabulary that is being used in the text.

Carefully studying the text we can see that we wrestle especially withthe structure and vocabulary that was new, and that were very necessary to study to get the exact choice or how the sentence was to be done for a good resonance.

The author’s voice is marked asa mix of both academic and personal thinking that illustrates the Indians and Spaniards attitudes towards each one during the colonization era.


The book was always specific and clearbecause of the way it was narrated. Although it was necessary to involve the three aspects, the writer, the text itself, and the reader (TRANSLATOR) , forcing me to go further than the text beingtranslated.

SELECTING THE EXACT WORDS:

Many passages from the book were paraphrased and that became the translation a re-telling of segments, causing me to investigate what were the authorsof those paragraphs thought.



Throughout the book wee see words as “Indians” which in the colonization era the translation might be “ Indios”, but, nowadays for many and even morefor the indigenous people is an offense, for that reason was a hard investigation on what to use whether “Indios” or “ Indigenas”. The same problem with the word “Dependencies” which in Spanish isoften used as “ colonias” and not as “ dependencia”.



GRAMMATICAL PROBLEMS

Spanish and English grammars are different because Spanish belong to the Romance family while and Englishbelong to the Germanic one. Each language has its specific grammatical rules, elements, categories, and features. This variation causes many problems when we translate. Although the text was very clear...
