Rhyming Nonsense

This is a list of phrases made of pairs of words that rhyme. In the most interesting cases, neither of the words is "really"a word, in the sense that they are never used except in this phrase, as in helter skelter. In other cases, one or both parts of the phrase have been modified to improve the meter or rhyme. In othercases, one of the words doesn't really add anything to the meaning of the phrase, but rather seems to have been used to allow the sound of the other word to be repeated, as in even steven.
Theastounding preponderance of initial "H's" remains to be explained, almost as though the speaker was practicing defensive repetition for a listener with poor hearing. The technical term for the way many ofthese phrases are formed is "reduplication" which is itself an example of redundancy.
In the word game called "Crambo", the challenger gives a word, and the contestant must supply a rhyme. The samesort of rhyme matching seems to be going on here.

airy fairy (flighty, impractical)
Ally Pally (Alexandra Palace, once home to the BBC)AmCham (The American Chamber of Commerce)
Am Drams (amateur drama presentations)
analysis paralysis (the endless series of self reviews into which any
sufficiently complexbureaucracy can be driven)
anchor clanker (a sailor)
Anglo-Banglo (a person of mixed English and Bangladeshi ancestry)
