Violencia En Videojuegos
Abstract
American citizens have seen and been victims of violent acts towards each. Whether they inflicted the violence or were on the receiving end of the aggression we have all been part of it. Which brings us to the concern “Are violent video games increasing the aggression of children’s behaviors?” “About 90% of Americans ages8–16 play video games and they spend about 13 hours a week doing so”(Harding, 2008). Video games keep evolving becoming much more sophisticated and realistic every year. It is important to make sure that violent video games do not have a negative influence on the behavior of children. Most of us have played video games and know firsthand how they can influence our behavior. They can make ushappy when we win, or frustrated when we lose. Are violent video games increasing the violent behaviors, attitudes and thinking of the children who play them. Or are they simply being used as a scapegoat for a child’s bad behavior. “Finding someone to blame when things go wrong can provide a target for one’s anger” (Myers, 2010). In this research paper Group 1 will explain the measures we are usingto gain information on whether violent video games are making children behave more aggressive. We will also share the results from the surveys that were answered as well as our final conclusion on what we have discovered through our research.
Do Violent Video Games Make Our Children More Aggressive?
Are violent video games affecting our children and their behavior? Some say yes, whileothers think no. Then why are there ratings on video games now? It has to inform the parents what kind of games their children are playing. Violent video games have been around for many years now. Video games come in a wide variety of story lines. Some military, some extraterrestrial, and even some that involve gang life. “Grand Theft Auto” was the big game that started the big up roar in the violencein these games. Parents did not like that fact that children were running the streets, beating up random people, and getting cash rewarded for it in these games. “A study in the March 2010 issue of Psychological Bulletin, a journal of the American Psychological Association, shows that playing violent video games increases violent thinking, attitudes and behaviors among players”(Huget, 2010).Craig A. Anderson, a Professor at Iowa State University has conducted such a research not long ago. Using over 1,500 children from both the United States and Japan, Professor Anderson has been able to make a link between the violence in video games and our children. Dr. L. Rowell Huesmann, director of the Research Center Group for Group Dynamics at the University of Michigan’s Institute for SocialResearch commented on Professor Anderson's findings. “When you’re exposed to violence day in and day out, it loses its emotional impact on you. Once you’re emotionally numb to violence, it’s much easier to engage in violence.” (CNN Health, 2008) The more you see something the more you get used to it and the less of an impact it has on you. In addition, the parents should be explaining to theirchildren, that these video games are just games, and to not reenact these games in anyway.
In this study, we will not only interview children, but their parents as well to figure out if the parents are explaining what is right and what is wrong when it comes the these violent games. We predict that the study we will perform will conclude that violence’s in these video games are affecting ourchildren and making them more aggressive. Secondly, we hope the Parents pay more attention to these games and monitor their children’s playing time and the contents of the games.
In this study, Group 1 conducted a random selection of participants. In addition, to make it more reliable we spread out in diverse income areas. The participants include both Male and Female, young and old. On the older...
