The Four Asian Tigers

The Four Asian Tigers or Asian Dragons is a term used in reference to the highly developedeconomies of Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan since 1970. These regions were the first newly industrialized countries, noted for maintaining exceptionally high growth rates and rapidindustrialization between 1960 and 1990. In the 21st century, the four regions have already graduated from advanced economies and high-income economies. However, attention has increasingly shifted to otherAsian economies that are experiencing the fastest economic transformation.
The four Asian tigers have an educated and highly skilled workforce and have specialized in areas where it had a competitiveadvantage. For example, Hong Kong and Singapore became the world's leading international financial centers, while South Korea and Taiwan became world leaders in information technology. Their economicsuccess stories that became known as the miracle of the Han River and the miracle of Taiwan and have served as models for many developing countries.
The four tigers original experience of decades ofsupercharged growth based largely on market liberalization and a dramatic increase in exports, much of it prompted by the United States during the Cold War.
